Anne Crochet Sweater Pattern

Hello friends!

If you’re new here, I’m Estel — I make videos about sewing, crochet, and other crafts, and I love sharing my learning process along the way.

Recently, I decided to take on a fun challenge: recreating one of my favorite old sweaters using crochet. Many of you have asked about the green sweater I’ve been wearing in my recent videos, but unfortunately, it’s no longer available to buy. So, I thought it would be a great opportunity to try recreating it in a way that’s simple, beginner-friendly, and fun to experiment with.

As I worked on this project, I found myself re-reading the first Anne of Green Gables book, and somehow this sweater started to feel connected to Anne Shirley herself. The braided texture kept reminding me of Anne’s hair, and the whole process — experimenting, making mistakes, and starting again — echoed her curiosity and her joy for discovering new things. To me, this sweater feels a bit like “plain, old, unromantic Anne Shirley” — but in the best possible way. Simple, sensible, and practical… the kind of piece Marilla would  approve of. And so, I decided to name this sweater “Anne Sweater Pattern”.

This first version of the pattern is available for free through my newsletter. It’s meant for those of you who enjoy experimenting and don’t mind small adjustments along the way. Your feedback will help me refine the pattern, and eventually, I’ll release a polished paid version.

I’ve only made one crochet sweater before — my Astur Sweater — and it remains one of my favorite handmade pieces. Trying to recreate this new sweater felt like the perfect challenge to explore crochet in a simple, approachable way.

Note: Be aware that I’m not a pattern maker, but I tried my best at showing the step-by-step process of making this sweater — and also showing you how I approach recreating a garment, in a way that’s accessible even if you’re a beginner.

This sweater was designed to be accessible even if you’re just starting with crochet. The stitch creates a braided, knitted-like texture, but it’s simple to work — no complicated increases or decreases required.

And if you want to see the full process and how I recreated this sweater from start to finish, you can watch the YouTube video here:
